What You Will Learn
Chemical Analysis
- ✓Operating an Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES)
- ✓Sample preparation for spark analysis
- ✓Reading and interpreting elemental reports
- ✓Grade identification for IS, ASTM, EN material standards
Mechanical Testing
- ✓Universal Testing Machine (UTM) operation — tensile, bend, compression
- ✓Hardness testing: Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers, Micro Vickers
- ✓Charpy and Izod impact testing
- ✓Salt spray chamber setup and evaluation
Metallurgical Analysis
- ✓Specimen sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing
- ✓Chemical etching with Nital, Picral, and other reagents
- ✓Optical microscope operation at 50×–1000×
- ✓Inclusion rating (ASTM E45), grain size (ASTM E112), case depth measurement
Laboratory Practice
- ✓Test report writing and documentation
- ✓Understanding quality management in a testing laboratory
- ✓Standard interpretation (IS, ASTM, EN, ISO)
- ✓Material identification and failure analysis basics
Who Can Apply

- ◆B.E. / B.Tech students in Mechanical Engineering
